Market Direction and News, July 20, 2026
The week opens with a risk on tone. Stock index futures are higher, led by the Nasdaq up about 0.7 percent, as oil eases back after touching 90 dollars over the weekend on renewed US and Iran tensions. The chip and AI names, which took the brunt of last week's selling, are bouncing this morning. The bigger picture is that this is Big Tech earnings week. Alphabet and Tesla both report Wednesday, and Intel and IBM report later in the week, so today's action is largely positioning into those reports. After last week's rotation out of AI, traders want proof that earnings can justify the valuations. Net read is a relief bounce with a wait and see tone into Wednesday, so respect the strength but keep the earnings risk in mind.
Why Are Chip and AI Stocks Bouncing Today?
After a sharp two day selloff to end last week, the semiconductor and AI names are rebounding. Micron (MU), SanDisk (SNDK), AMD, Marvell (MRVL), and Nebius (NBIS) are all higher, and bitcoin miners like IREN and WULF are bouncing alongside them. Nothing new fundamentally changed. This is a relief bounce after an oversold week, helped by oil pulling back and futures pointing higher. The real test comes Wednesday when Alphabet reports and gives the market a read on AI capital spending, which flows straight into these chip names.
Why Is BIYA Stock Up?
Baiya International Group (BIYA) gapped up more than 75 percent premarket after completing a 1 for 10 reverse stock split. The split, done to meet Nasdaq's minimum bid price rule, cut the share count from about 27 million to roughly 2.7 million, and that much smaller float is fueling a momentum squeeze. This is a low float and mechanical move, not a fundamental one, so it can reverse just as fast as it ran.
Why Is GVH Stock Down?
Globavend Holdings (GVH) dropped about 47 percent premarket. This is a highly volatile low float name giving back a recent run, with a standby equity financing facility hanging over it as a dilution overhang. There is no clean positive catalyst here, so the move looks like momentum and supply working against the stock after a spike. Names like this are fast and unforgiving in both directions.

Economic Calendar, Week of July 20, 2026
It is a quiet week for economic data, so earnings are the story. Alphabet and Tesla report Wednesday, with Intel and IBM also on the calendar this week, and American Express closes the week Friday for the best read on the consumer. The scheduled data is limited to weekly jobless claims Thursday, the flash PMIs midweek, and housing figures. Inflation is already confirmed soft after last week's CPI and PPI.
