This market news roundup covers the overall direction of today's session and why the biggest premarket movers are gapping, from the PayPal (PYPL) buyout offer to the Ernexa (ERNA) runner and the NextCure (NXTC) pullback. Every mover below comes straight from this morning's scan with volume, float, and daily ATR so you can see what is running before the open.

Market Direction and News, July 15, 2026

The tone stays constructive after yesterday's rally on soft CPI and strong bank earnings. Stock index futures are mixed to higher, with the Nasdaq leading, up about 0.6 percent, while the Dow is close to flat. The soft June inflation print cut the odds of a Fed rate hike at the next meeting to roughly 17 percent, down from about 41 percent before the data, which is the main reason growth and tech have the bid. Today's test is the June PPI report, expected to show producer prices easing, plus more bank earnings from Morgan Stanley (MS), BlackRock (BLK), and PNC. The single biggest stock story is the PayPal buyout offer. Net read is a risk on lean led by tech, with PPI the next data checkpoint, so let the number set the tone and favor the leaders.

Why Is PayPal (PYPL) Stock Up?

PayPal (PYPL) gapped up about 19 percent premarket after a report that payments company Stripe and private equity firm Advent International made a joint offer to acquire PayPal for 60.50 dollars per share. That is a premium of roughly 28 percent over the prior close and values the company at more than 53 billion dollars, with about 50 billion in committed bank financing behind it. Stripe, Advent, and PayPal have not confirmed the report, and there is no guarantee it leads to a deal, which is why the stock is trading below the offer price rather than at it.

Why Is Ernexa (ERNA) Stock Up?

Ernexa Therapeutics (ERNA) gapped up more than 55 percent premarket. The clinical stage biotech has been running on its lead cell therapy program, ERNA-101, after preclinical data showed tumor clearance in ovarian cancer models and the company reported FDA alignment on its development plan, with a first in human trial targeted for the second half of 2026. On a float of roughly 13.7 million shares, that story is fueling a momentum move.

Why Is NextCure (NXTC) Stock Down?

NextCure (NXTC) is down about 22 percent premarket, and this is a pullback, not a new problem. The stock more than tripled on Monday on news of an all stock merger with Avere Therapeutics and a 320 million dollar financing that will take the combined company public as Avere under the ticker AVRX. After a move that large, a sharp fade the next session is typical as fast money takes profits.
